Who am I?
I am an Executive Member of the LLP and Head of our Private Client Department. This includes Wills, Probate & Trusts, Court of Protection and Elderly Client work. Whilst I am based at our Horsham office, I regularly spend time at our offices in Worthing and Hove and I am able to meet with clients at whichever of our offices is most convenient to them.
I was admitted as a Solicitor in 1996 having prior to this gained many years’ experience as a fully qualified Legal Executive. I joined Coole & Haddock in 1997 becoming an equity partner in 2002, we then merged in 2016 to form Coole Bevis LLP.
I’ve been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since before my admittance as a Solicitor and I am exceptionally proud of the fact I am 1 of just 71 people in the Country to be on the Panel of Deputies maintained by the Court of Protection and I have been on the Panel since its inception.
In 2018, myself and members of my department were recognised for our work in the Legal 500 Directory, something we are all immensely proud of.
What I do
- Court of Protection applications and administration
- Court of Protection, Panel appointments
- Probate and estate administration
- Simple and complex Will drafting
- Inheritance tax advice and planning
- Formation and registration of Powers of Attorney
- Managing the affairs of elderly and incapacitated persons
- Trust creation and administration
I have dealt with many cases over the years which have been hugely successful for my clients, one which particularly stands out is that I successfully negotiated with HMRC on a case involving both agricultural property relief and proprietary estoppel resulting in a significant inheritance tax saving to my client.
I feel my work as a Panel Deputy and Attorney for many elderly and incapacitated clients is particularly rewarding and enables me to build strong relationships with my clients and their families and enables me to really make a difference to their lives. You are more than a solicitor in these cases, often needing to be involved in complex care decisions and arrangements and ensuring the persons’ finances are arranged to ensure funding is available to cover care costs.
My hobbies and interests
I love gardening, my garden is full tropical plants such as bananas (which have successfully produced non edible bananas several years on the trot), palms and other exotic plants.
I also enjoy music, film, dining out, especially sushi, and spending time with my family and friends.
